Via Sister Antonie Hardy ( sister of Sister Lucienne Hardy, working in Chile):

“The buildings are seriously damaged but we had no casualties” We (the Hardy family) tried to reach Sister Lucienne but our efforts proved of no avail.

http://users.telenet.be/elcarmen . Through this site, people from “Hogar Hermana Elisa El Carmen” tried to give the latest available news from Chile.
The life’s work of the late Sister Elisa Mottart and the life’s work of the late Edith Jans
are still going on, enthusiastically carried on by Chilean co-workers. They too deserve your support.
Pater Albert Berden , a few years ago, received support from our organization. He is living and working in Los Angeles, ± 100Km South of Concepción. His church and school have been severely damaged

A message received from Sister Roza Vanden Broucke (Haïti) :

(26/01/10) "Hello Lieve ! Thank you for your message. The day of my departure is near. I’ll bring along a letter from each child and I will send them to you together with my own letter when I am home.
There are a number of questions to be solved, so I’ll bring my files with me. Latest news: our school in Hinche will reopen on February 1st. Today we did enrol pupils who are in Hinche but who are coming from the school in Port au Prince which is completely destroyed. We already have about 30 such pupils.
Tomorrow we’ll check in which class there are still place for more pupils."

(14/01/10) "In Hinche, we, as well as your godchildren, felt the tremor but there was no damage.
Today everything is at a stand-still. What is worse, we have no telecommunication, no TV, only a local radio.
Therefore, you have seen more about the disaster than we.
The Scheut Fathers are living in the capital."
