General
The administration meets regularly to assess the applications received for their worthiness of support, and depending on the funds available a number of projects are approved.
We do receive more projects nominations than we can finance. Moreover, many project applications cannot be accepted because they do not meet our objectives or because they are unfortunately too ambitious for our organisation. For specific needs we refer to larger, integrated fund-acquiring organisations.
The project applications must meet specific criteria and we use a number of priorities for the approval of projects. The following are required for an "Application for support": the personal information of the requesting party, a detailed description of the project, the cost estimate, details of any support from elsewhere, the required support, information about any intermediary or organisation (e.g. the office of a missionary order), recommendations (e.g. local bishops, general administrators of congregations). Criteria:
We only support small-scale, well-defined projects:
- the projects must structurally improve the living conditions of the population in developing countries, for example by the organising of courses in the field of hygiene, literacy, the drilling of wells, and the starting up of small companies which will in due course be self-supporting;
- not a single person, but a group or community must benefit from the improvement of the local living conditions;
- the chances of success (e.g. because the political/social situation of the country or region is quite stable);
- no financial dependence may be created;
- the meeting of a real financial need;
- the project must be easy to monitor.
N.B.: Applications from India, Uganda and Rwanda must always be accompanied by a favourable report from Caritas India, Uganda or Rwanda. This organisation is aware of the local situation and also supervises the correct allocation of the funds.
The subsidies resulting from the clothing action must be used by the institutions (school communities, church administrations, missionary centres) for projects that meet the objectives of our foundation.
