The clothing collection service operates under the name "Salvatoriaanse Ontwikkelingshulp vzw". It has 6 lorries which each day collect second-hand clothing (clothes containers and door-to-door) in Belgium and the Netherlands.
We have clothing containers in position in the Belgian province of Limburg and in the Dutch provinces Limburg and North-Brabant. These containers are usually in public places (near a large supermarket, near the church, the town hall, a civic amenity site, etc.)
The profits from the clothing containers go to the local missionary committees proportionate to the quantity of clothing we collect in their parish. In the Netherlands there is also co-operation with also another institution, working for a good cause: SMHO (Stichting Medische Hulp voor Oost-Europa).
A condition for receiving the benefits is that the money is spent according to the objectives of the Salvatorian Relief Action. We also request a financial report each year for control purposes. (We give no money to individuals, only to missionary committees, parishes, non-profit associations and institutions.)
We are among the few recognised organisations, not to be compared with commercial establishments or non-bona fide organisations. Accordingly, most cities and municipalities give us permission to organise a collection service.

In the Netherlands we depend on the favourable judgement of the Centraal Bureau Fondsenwerving for obtaining permission from the municipalities for the door-to-door collection of clothing. We believe it is a good thing that strict criteria and controls are used for this, so commercial and dubious organisations do not win the fight for the 'market' of the Good Cause
In the 2006 working year our service collected a volume of nearly 3 million kilos. Thanks to the profits from our collection service we could and can help finance many projects in the developing countries. We thank the many people and groups who save second-hand clothing, stock clothing shops, and place their clothing at the door at the appropriate time or put it in the containers. The Salvatorian Relief Action does the rest.
